WiMax Uses Cisco Technology

YTL e-Solutions (YTLE), a subsidiary of Malaysian conglomerate YTL Corporation, has entered a strategic collaboration with Cisco Services Malaysia (Cisco) to establish its WiMAX core network throughout Peninsular Malaysia.

“The business relationship is in line with YTLE’s goal to provide mobile internet services nationwide,” said YTL e-solutions executive chairman and managing director, Tan Sri (Dr) Francis Yeoh. “Upon the nationwide commercial service launch in 2009, Malaysians in both urban and rural areas will be able to simultaneously enjoy 4G converged services—mobile voice, data and video with full mobility, using personal WiMAX mobile devices over the YTLE’s WiMAX network.”

Under the agreement, Dr Yeoh said that Cisco would build and integrate YTLE’s WiMAX core network, which includes IP Core, Operating Support Systems, Billing Systems, Proactive Network Operating Centre (PNOC), and Interoperability Testing labs, to help YTL quickly launch new services.

WiMAX Centre of Excellence in Malaysia

“We need a technology partner that can enable a fast and efficient WiMAX core network establishment,” said Tan Sri Dr Yeoh. “Together with Cisco, YTLE will create a WiMAX centre of excellence in Malaysia to become a world destination for WiMAX technology development.”

Cisco executive vice president, services & chief globalisation officer, Wim Elfrink, said: “This collaborative model is a first for Cisco, and demonstrates how governments and technology leaders can together provide the network as a ‘fourth utility’ for delivering services that enhance business productivity and quality of life. By enabling the mobile Internet, YTLE and Cisco are helping to enhance the global competitiveness of Malaysia and its citizens.”

Singapore Government Recognises Cisco Certification

Cisco and the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) have expanded their technology collaboration to advance Internet Protocol (IP) networking in Singapore. Both parties signed a Memorandum of Intent (MOI) in October 2005 to enhance current and future collaborations to identify, develop and deploy innovative converged infocomm applications in Singapore.

Today, in a signing ceremony witnessed by Dr Lee Boon Yang, Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts and Mr. John Chambers, Cisco's Chairman and CEO, both parties re-affirmed their commitment made during the MOI and expanded their collaboration in line with iP3 (interaction across People, Private and Public enterprise). The expanded agreement, signed between Cisco Systems International, BV, and the IDA, includes exploring and implementing technologies that will help achieve a ubiquitous computing environment and fuel greater innovation of next-generation networking solutions in Singapore.

Cisco has participated in projects to transform and enable key clusters such as education and healthcare. An example is the Cisco Clinical Connection initiative which aims to revolutionise the way information flows in the healthcare sector.

Since the signing of the first MOI in October 2005, Cisco has been an active participant in IDA's infocomm Local Industry Upgrading Program (iLIUP) where they recruited over 25 local companies, and trained over 40 technical staff in those companies, helping them generate S$1.9 million in sales. Cisco was also a partner and sponsor for national projects like S2006 and Innovationation.

In addition, Cisco has provided support to the Infocomm Club at Victoria Junior College. The Infocomm Club is an IDA initiative, supported by the Ministry of Education (MOE), to attract and nurture talent for the infocomm industry. Moving forward, Cisco will be looking into supporting more infocomm clubs, as well as helping to raise the competency level of network professionals and students in Singapore through training and certification, local and overseas industry attachments and scholarships. Cisco and IDA are targeting to train about 1,800 students and professionals under the National Infocomm Competency Framework over the next three years as part of the common vision to groom infocomm talent for Singapore's social and economic growth.

"IDA welcomes collaborative efforts with MNC partners like Cisco to explore the use of next generation technologies for Singapore's development. Such partners can lend their experience and expertise in helping us to achieve our iN2015 vision of building an intelligent nation, global city powered by infocomm," said Mr. Leong Keng Thai, Acting CEO of IDA.

"Cisco's and Singapore's vision are alike in many ways. Cisco is building the network to become the platform to enable life's experiences and the Singapore government similarly sees ICT as the enabler that will impact the way Singaporeans work, live, play and learn. This shared vision is the driver behind iP3 and Cisco is excited to be able to contribute to iN2015," said Mr. Craig Gledhill, Cisco's Managing Director for Singapore and Brunei.

"Cisco is also able to contribute through its technology leadership in next generation broadband and wireless solutions as well as advanced and emerging technologies such as unified communications and telepresence," he added. "We will be combining these with best practices from leading-edge deployments around the world to create proof-of-concept projects that may be applicable for wide-spread adoption in Singapore."

We hope to train more Singaporeans to be Cisco Certified as it is the most respected IT & Electronic Engineering certification.

Vietnam's Government Recognises Cisco Certification

Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training Recognizes Cisco for Efforts to Raise Country's Technology Skills

HANOI, Vietnam, June 5, 2008 - Cisco® today announced that it has been honored with two awards from Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training for its contribution to advancing education and research in the country. The awards are the one of the highest forms of recognition that the Vietnamese government gives to private companies and individuals upon recommendation by Vietnam's university community.

The first award is a certificate of appreciation to Cisco for its commitment to technical education in the country through its Cisco Networking Academy® Program. The second is a Education Career medal, given to Professor Christopher Hoang Pham, a Cisco senior engineering manager of the U.S.-based Network Software and System Technology Group, for his contribution to research and development through the networking laboratory in the Hanoi University of Technology (HUT) and other educational activities.

The Networking Academy program fosters local economic growth by developing and supporting technical education worldwide. Cisco provides educational institutions with leading-edge information technology (IT) curricula and hands-on lab exercises to train a workforce that may attract highly desirable employers. The Networking Academy program was first launched in Vietnam in 2001 with only one academy and now has developed to 19 academies throughout the country. Over six years, the program has produced more than 600 alumni. Nearly 4,000 students have been taught by about 200 instructors in 650 courses.

Beside the Networking Academy program, Cisco has carried out a series of educational activities under Pham's guidance. These include:

Providing equipment and consultation for the networking laboratory in HUT;
Facilitating numerous science and technology seminars and conferences in Vietnam for professors and students;
Arranging the visits of Vietnamese educational groups to the United States for on-site experience and discussion;
Providing technical consultation for and designing the networking infrastructure of government offices and classrooms in Vietnam to raise classroom quality to international standards;
Creating a network for student and teachers to enhance their knowledge and understanding through consultations with experts abroad; and
Contributing to disaster relief through donations.
The Cisco Asian Affinity Network, in which Pham serves as a core team member, reaches out globally to mentor educators and students in Vietnam and many other Asian countries.

"Cisco is honored with these awards from the ministry," said James Chia, general director for Cisco Vietnam. "We always place a high priority on giving back to the community, and the Cisco Networking Academy Program represents the best way that we can do that. The program provides students with an excellent foundation for life in the technology industry, and these youths will in turn become the backbone for an economically vibrant Vietnam."

The Cisco Networking Academy Program is a comprehensive program that provides students with the Internet technology skills essential in a global economy. The program delivers Web-based content, online assessments, student-performance tracking, hands-on labs, instructor training and support, and preparation for industry standard certifications.

Cisco Technology Is recognised in Hospitals In Egypt

An honorary trophy was presented to Cisco during a prestigious event to demonstrate the hospital's appreciation to Cisco for providing an innovative network solution that is specialized for healthcare facilities, and sharing the hospital's vision of building a world class hospital in Egypt.

'We were looking for a technology vendor that shared our vision for an ICT-centric healthcare strategy on one hand, and can share our passion to build an all-digital medical facility that can offer better treatment to our patients,' said Dr. Mohamed Hany M. Hussein - Professor of Pediatric Oncology Children's Cancer Hospital Egypt 57357 General Manager.

He added, 'Cisco's renowned expertise in IP networking, plus the fact that Cisco has a global successful track record in this field gave us both confidence and assurance of a successful relationship.'

Hospital 57357 is one of the first success stories of a successful end-to-end all Cisco connected healthcare implementation in the region. With the results achieved today, the implementation has set new standards for planning and operating hospitals, defining future best practice for healthcare-related institutions and providers in Egypt. The Cisco-based infrastructure has been highly successful to Hospital 57357 in more ways than one. First, it has enabled the hospital to raise the quality of healthcare provision by giving clinical staff rapid, secure access to online patient records and medical images from anywhere in the building. This, in turn, allowed Hospital 57357 medical staffs to access accurate and up-to-date patient information that help them treat patients more quickly and efficiently.

'We are very pleased that Hospital 57357 chose Cisco to be part of this noble project. This effort underlines Cisco's global 'connected health' vision to help healthcare organizations, such as Hospital 57357, build a communications system that enables caregivers to make more timely decisions and facilitate better healthcare quality, safety, and affordability,' said Hani Abdelaziz, general manager of Cisco Egypt. 'With its vision, Hospital 57357 is redefining the important role ICT plays in the healthcare industry in Egypt today. We look forward to replicate this success and extend it to more medical facility in the country.'

Cisco Unified Communications solutions are a major component and as an integration point for a wide variety of inter-staff communication systems. Helping hospital staff and systems collaborate and share information efficiently, securely and with highest levels of security and reliability. A core infrastructure comprising Cisco Catalyst 3650 and 6500 Series Switches supports a campus-wide Cisco wireless network and enables IP telephony, using Cisco Unified Communications Manager technology that provides call processing for Cisco Unified IP phones.

Thanks to the wireless infrastructure, everyone on the campus - patients, visitors and hospital staff - can have access to the Internet via fast and secure connections. 'Cisco helped us rollout a wireless network that does not interfere with hospital equipment, thus eliminating any risks to patients' health. The system has wide coverage, it is easy to manage, and it supports a wide range of devices and applications for staff, patients and visitors,' said Sherif Abu El Naga- (Vice President Academic Affairs, Research & Outreach Children's Cancer Hospital Egypt 57357)

Buzzword Developer Intern

Job ID: GG010923 Company Name: Adobe United States

Description:
Adobe believes in hiring the very best. We are known for our vibrant, dynamic and rewarding workplace where personal and professional fulfillment and company success go hand in hand. We take pride in creating exceptional work experiences, encouraging innovation and being involved with our employees, customers and communities. We invite you to discover what makes Adobe such a great place to work.

Position Overview
What is the Buzzword team up to?
Buzzword, the first real word processor for the web, is a breakthrough in collaborative authoring for documents that matter. The Buzzword team joined Adobe Systems Incorporated in 2007 in order to take Buzzword to the next level, building new features, integrating with the Acrobat.com product suite, and scaling up to hundreds of thousands of users.

The Buzzword application is built on the Adobe Flash/Flex platform, written primarily in ActionScript 3.0, an object-oriented language familiar to people who know Java and C#. Additionally, Buzzword incorporates a server that is written in C# using Microsoft .NET and SQL Server 2005.

Responsibilities
What are we looking for?
The Buzzword team is looking for a software development intern to join us for the summer. You should be a computer science major (or equivalent) going into your junior or senior year, with a passion for writing great code, learning new technologies, and discovering just what it takes to build commercial software. You'll receive mentoring from Buzzword team members, and you'll see every part of the software lifecycle: requirements, design, coding, testing, and release.

What would you work on?
Here is a small sampling of the projects you might work on as an intern on the Buzzword development team:
* New features: if you're a strong contributor, you'll get to work on important new product features right along side the rest of the development team.
* Bug fixing: there's no better way to learn your way around a big code base than by fixing some bugs.
* Prototyping additional browser support: Buzzword relies on some small but critical bits of JavaScript to support keyboard control and system clipboard access, so we are currently limited to IE, Firefox, and Safari. You would prototype versions of this code for other browsers.
* Load and/or performance testing: In order to gauge future hardware needs, you would write a load simulator for our server, execute it, and analyze the results.
* Writing tests: Buzzword has a built-in automated test framework, with hundreds of existing tests that exercise product functionality and check for bug regression. You would write new tests, and analyze existing tests to remove duplicate functionality and improve coverage.
* Experimenting with Buzzword mashups: there are many unexplored possibilities for mashing Buzzword with other applications on both the client side (in the browser) and the server side.
* Site statistics analysis tools: both the Buzzword server and Google Analytics gather ongoing server usage statistics; you would improve on them and build new ways to look at how our users use the product.
* Secret projects: we've got new products coming down the pike that we can't tell you about in this ad.

Adobe is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. We welcome and encourage diversity in the workplace.

Russia richest

Russian metals tycoon Oleg Deripaska has seized the title of Russia's richest man from Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, one of the 50th wealthiest men in the world, the Finance magazine reported.

The new ranking published by the magazine on Monday showed that Kremlin-friendly Deripaska, 40, the sole owner of Russia's industrial holding Basic Element (BasEl), nearly doubled his fortune in 2007 to an estimated $40 billion.

Russia's aluminum giant UC RusAl, controlled by Deripaska's BasEl, became the world's largest aluminum producer after a merger between RusAl, Sual, a Russian rival, and Swiss Glencore's alumina assets last March.

Russia's Chukotka governor Abramovich, 42, who mostly resides in London, was beaten into second place with an estimated $23 billion.

Vladimir Lisin, the owner of Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) came third in Russia's billionaire race with a $22.2 billion fortune.

The magazine also said the number of billionaires worldwide has increased four-fold, with Russians now joining the list of the world's richest people.

Monday, March 23, 2009

Billionaires slowing down

The world's richest are also a lot poorer. Their collective net worth is $2.4 trillion, down $2 trillion from a year ago. Their average net worth fell 23% to $3 billion. The last time the average was that low was in 2003.

Bill Gates lost $18 billion but regained his title as the world's richest man. Warren Buffett, last year's No. 1, saw his fortune decline $25 billion as shares of Berkshire Hathaway (nyse: BRK.A - news - people ) fell nearly 50% in 12 months, but he still managed to slip just one spot to No. 2. Mexican telecom titan Carlos Slim HelĂș also lost $25 billion and dropped one spot to No. 3.

It was hard to avoid the carnage, whether you were in stocks, commodities, real estate or technology. Even people running profitable businesses were hammered by frozen credit markets, weak consumer spending or declining currencies.

The biggest loser in the world this year, by dollars, was last year's biggest gainer. India's Anil Ambani lost $32 billion--76% of his fortune--as shares of his Reliance Communications, Reliance Power and Reliance Capital all collapsed.

Ambani is one of 24 Indian billionaires, all but one of whom are poorer than a year ago. Another 29 Indians lost their billionaire status entirely as India's stock market tumbled 44% in the past year and the Indian rupee depreciated 18% against the dollar. It is no longer the top spot in Asia for billionaires, ceding that title to China, which has 28.

High demand in Autodesk Maya Technology

Holiday Movies Come to Life with Autodesk Technology

Across multiple movie genres and filmmaking techniques, this year’s holiday blockbuster movies demonstrate the wide range of entertainment that is shaped with Autodesk software. Filmmakers are using Autodesk’s animation, visual effects, and color grading tools to enhance their creative process and enable sophisticated storytelling.
Changeling

Visual effects (VFX) studio CIS Vancouver worked on the historical drama Changeling. As the lead VFX house, CIS’s dedicated team of artists worked diligently with a shortened schedule to ready the film for its Cannes Film Festival premiere and subsequent theatrical release. CIS used Autodesk® Maya® software for virtually all the modeling and animation and Autodesk® Inferno® visual effects software for matte paintings. VFX Supervisor Geoffrey Hancock stated, “The graphics speed, multiple iteration ability, and overall robustness of Inferno was invaluable to our pipeline. The film’s subtle visual effects allow audiences to become fully absorbed in the story. We actually enjoyed the constraints of creating a believable and historically accurate environment. It was so refreshing to create invisible effects, not solely for the spectacle.”

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa

Set in an imaginary animal universe, DreamWorks Animation’s dazzling computer-generated (CG) animated film Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa also relied upon Maya to tell its story. “Maya gives us a lot of control over our particle simulations. The software is deep in its programmability and very scalable for all kinds of visual effects, from the down-and-dirty two-day effect to the dam-breaking effect that took four months to perfect. Maya covers our needs on both ends of the spectrum and we rely upon it more and more every year,” said Scott Peterson, head of effects for Madagascar 2. DreamWorks turned to the Autodesk® Lustre® system for the film’s color grading, tailoring the film's look to augment the adventure of a motley crew of New York zoo animals.

City of Ember

For the instant cult classic City of Ember, lead VFX house Luma Pictures used Maya and several plug-in solutions including mental ray® and RealFlow. These tools were used to create a fantastical world filled with complex CG water systems, full subterranean CG sets, and an enormous CG mole. Payam Shohadai, executive VFX supervisor at Luma Pictures, remarked, “Maya is the backbone of our entire VFX pipeline. Its amazing power and scripting flexibility allowed us to bring the City of Ember to life in ways no one thought possible—Maya is truly indispensable.”

Twilight

CIS also led the visual effects effort on the teen vampire box office bonanza Twilight. Full of atmospheric effects, the 250-shot Twilight required heavy rotoscoping and compositing to incorporate hyperkinetic vampire motion and augment stormy weather. For the previsualization stage, CIS extensively relied upon Autodesk Maya 3D modeling, animation, and rendering software. A scene set in a ballet studio filled with mirrors created complex visual challenges, requiring tracking of more than half a dozen reflective bounces between the mirrors. “Using Maya to conduct multiple camera pre-tests from many angles, we were able to save the production team hours of set time,” said Geoffrey Hancock, CIS visual effects supervisor. “Autodesk’s powerful tools gave us the opportunity to focus on the creative challenges of this scene rather than the technical ones.”

Schools and Universities Uses Cisco Technology

LAS VEGAS, February 24, 2008 - Cisco today announced that more than 1,000 organizations have adopted the Cisco® Digital Media System in just two years, led by early adopters at K-12 and higher education institutions. Schools and universities are using the Cisco Digital Media System, which includes digital signage, campus television and desktop video solutions, to improve campus communications, extend learning beyond the classroom environment and disseminate emergency notifications. Santa Clara University is the latest institution to deploy the solution.

Cisco is also introducing new content distribution capabilities for the Cisco Digital Media System. Building on existing support for the Cisco Application and Content Networking System, Cisco has added support for Cisco Wide Area Application Services and bandwidth optimization for Cisco Digital Media Players. Together these technologies help meet customers' needs for cost-effective media distribution across different network topologies.
Facts:

* Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, Calif., is using Cisco Digital Signage to communicate information about campus events, class updates and safety concerns to the campus community in real time.

Java technology challenging Microsoft Windows

HP and Sun Microsystems have entered into an agreement designed to simplify sales, service, and support for customers who run - or can be coaxed to run - Sun's Solaris 10 operating system on HP's x86 hardware.

Under the new partnership - discussed on Wednesday morning in a joint conference call hosted by HP and Sun execs - HP will market, distribute, and provide technical support for Sun Microsystem's Solaris 10 operating system on HP's ProLiant Server and BladeSystem platforms.

According to Mark Potter, HP's senior vice president and general manager of ESS Infrastructure Software and Blades, the agreement elevates Sun to the status of strategic HP Proliant OS distribution partner, with Solaris 10 taking its place along with other ProLiant x86 operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, Novell SUSE Linux, Red Hat Linux, and VMware.

Solaris is not new to ProLiant. HP certified it back in 1996. Potter referred to its current installed base among HP customers as "significant," suggesting that the agreement would help those customers by providing them with a single source - HP - for their "complete data-center infrastructure," including purchase and technical support. In other words, HP would be responsible for any issues that arise whether they involve hardware or software.

HP and Sun will work together on "further integration" of HP's Insight software-management suite for ProLiant. Potter promised additional usability and management enhancements, but gave no details.

Potter also took the opportunity to blow HP's horn a bit, citing the latest IDC server market-share numbers, which ranked HP as number one in x86 servers. He also pointed out that ProLiant held onto the top spot in x86 servers, a position it has now held for 50 consecutive quarters.

The Solaris agreement, Potter explained, relates to the ProLiant line only. HP-UX will remain the OS on HP's Integrity line of servers.

The agreement simplifies life for HP's channel partners, according to Potter, as they will now be able to source the complete Solaris-on-ProLiant package from HP.

John Fowler, Sun's executive vice president of systems, pointed out that the agreement with HP "comes on the heels of" similar agreements with Dell, IBM, Fujitsu Seimens, and Intel - and that Solaris is now certified for over 1,000 systems.

Fowler also claimed that Sun has been working closely with Intel and AMD for two years to optimize Solaris for multi-core, multi-threaded processors - although he said that Solaris has been designed for multi-threaded environments "for more than a decade."

He also announced that HP will join Intel, AMD, and others in "participating directly in the OpenSolaris community" and that Sun and HP are making a joint marketing investment to "dramatically expand the Solaris presence in new markets."

Therefore it is utmost important that Java Certification is needed in the next few years in order to support our technology worldwide.

Cisco is coming to Asia

NETWORK equipment and management provider Cisco Inc is further extending its technology into the consumer market.

The company said it will achieve this through the development and marketing of the Linksys by Cisco home-networking and entertainment products.

According to Graig Gledhil, Cisco consumer business group Asia-Pacific vice-president, there is an addressable retail market worth US$50bil (RM180 trillion) in the consumer market, particularly in home audio and home security hardware.

“The digital age is redefining the home consumers expectation for content,” Gledhil said in a media briefing in Cisco Malaysia’s office in Kuala Lumpur recently.

He said Cisco plans to capture the home user market in three phases.

The first phase is what the company calls the connected home where there is a proliferation of devices for accessing information.

The second is the media-enabled home where users can access more vibrant content.

“Although most Malaysian homes are still in Phase One, we see some advanced users shifting into Phase Two,” Gledhil said.

In the third phase, Cisco aims to bring visual networking into homes.

“We are building technology that will allow home users to conduct quality video teleconferences from their living room,” he said, adding that Cisco is working on a solution called Telepresence for the home which will show results in the next 12 to 18 months.

Cisco sees an opportunity for these consumer products in the Malaysian market due to the aggressive commitment in rolling out broadband technology by the Government, Gledhil said.

He said Malaysians are also keen on downloading content from the Internet and are actively scouring for such data.

“According to Nielsen Media Research, Malaysians are one of the top media junkies in the world and use the Internet actively to look for entertainment,” Gledhil said.

The company already has products in its portfolio for media enthusiasts and content creators to create, share and enjoy their media seemlessly and wirelessly.

The Linksys by Cisco media hub can be used as a central storage for all their media data from music to photographs and the Linksys by Cisco Wireless Home Audio.

“As more and more people go digital, there should be a central place where they can store their media so they won’t waste time looking for them in the future,” he said.

TheWireless Home Audio is a scalable home audio system that’s controlled using WiFi technology.

The products were launched at CES 2009, a consumer technology tradeshow in Las Vegas last month.

Gledhil foresees a quick adoption of the media hub in Malaysia because some people here are already using digital devices to record memorable moments, but said it could take several years for the product to go mainstream.

“This technology will be a boost to people who are already on broadband. As Malaysia’s broadband adoption grows, these products will grow with it and late adopters may even leapfrog the early ones,” he said.

However, the Wireless Home Audio is expected to experience a slower adoption by consumers. “It is targeted at a niche market so the entry price level may be a bit high (for many),” Gledhil said.

These products will be in Malaysia soon, Cisco said.

By the way, they are huge, what about you? Cisco Certification anyone?

Java hits Malaysia (Only to Selected People)

KUALA LUMPUR: The demand for open-source software in the country and the expertise required in this area is rising, according to the Multimedia Development Corp (MDeC) which spearheads the MSC Malaysia initiative.

Open-source software, said networking systems giant Sun Microsystems, is gaining popularity mainly because the advantages of user malleable programs are becoming more apparent.

Since the source code is accessible to users, a company could tweak open-source software to better meet its needs, compared to proprietary software which arguably has to be used as is.

In view of this increasing interest in open-source applications, MDeC and Sun have banded together to offer local university graduates the opportunity to master open-source skills.

Under the partnership, Sun will provide the graduates with industry-recognised technology training and certification tools, through MDeC’s network of institutions of higher learning.

The training will include teaching the students to master Java, a programming language developed by Sun Microsystems that has been in use since 1995.

In addition to that, they will learn about OpenSolaris, Sun’s open-source operating system, around which the vendor has built developer and user communities.

Also on the cards is to make the graduates experts in MySQL, a relational database management system that reportedly has more than 11 million installations worldwide.

“The students will gain relevant IT skills which will improve their employability, and the initiative will also help meet the local industry’s demand for competent IT professionals,” said MDeC chief executive Datuk Badlisham Ghazali.

He was speaking at a press conference in the capital last week to announce the partnership.

C.P. Loo, managing director of Sun Microsystems Malaysia, emphasised the importance of obtaining certification in open-source software.

“Our programmes are designed to enable IT professionals to better harness Sun’s leading open-source technologies,” he said, “as well as improve their communication and interaction skills.

The graduates will also be more productive once their technical and problem-solving skills are honed, Loo added.

Candidates who complete the course may be awarded a three-month apprenticeship at an MSC Malaysia-status company.

The MSC Malaysia initiative is aimed at developing the country’s knowledge-based economy, as well as boosting its information and communications technology industry.

Like I always say, invest in knowledge and you will be rewarded later. Sun Microsystem has its own certification. SayPBS Professional will also launch Java Certification in 2010. Lets take an overview about Java.

Sun's certification program in Java technology is an industry recognized, worldwide program that focuses on critical job roles in software application development and enterprise architecture. Since these certifications focus on the technology, the knowledge and skills learned while preparing for Sun's certifications are transportable from one company to another.

Sun's philosophy is that certification is central to the learning process as it provides validation of skill sets for specific job roles. Sun certification also offers a natural progression to support your career goals.

First, by becoming a Sun Certified Associate Sun verifies that you have a base set of knowledge that enables entry into a career in application development or software project management using Java technology.

Second, we train developers on a foundational set of skills, which can then be validated by becoming a Sun Certified Programmer. Afterwards, you can pursue advanced or specialty training and certifications that help enable career growth into more specific job roles making you more valuable to an organization.

Sun offers the following Java technology professional certifications:

- Sun Certified Java Associate (SCJA)
- Sun Certified Java Programmer (SCJP)
- Sun Certified Java Developer (SCJD)
- Sun Certified Web Component Developer (SCWCD)
- Sun Certified Business Component Developer (SCBCD)
