The Technical Artist will work as a bridge between the art and programming staff. Individuals in this role are generalists, excellent communicators, with strong problem solving skills, and with a respect for aesthetics. Candidates can be from an art, design, mathematics, engineering or science background; however they must demonstrate a comfort level in working with both art and science. Working with programming/technical staff the Senior Technical Artist ensures that CG assets are easily integrated into the game engine without sacrificing artistic integrity.
Technical Artists will be expected to understand how game play and architecture issues can affect content creation and successfully develop workflows to compensate for such limitations on artistic content.

Responsibilities:
• Researching and developing new art tools, processes, and technologies for production of real-time game artwork.
• Designing, implementing and maintaining art production paths using both off-the-shelf and proprietary software.
• Authoring, maintaining and customizing scripts for production team.
• Troubleshoot problems in pipeline and for individuals on as-needed basis.
• Creating proof-of-concept files for game art, effects, and animations.
• Creating training files, examples, text and tutorials and assisting art staff in learning new technologies and processes.
• Testing and evaluating new internal and off the shelf software tools and technologies for real-time artwork development.
• Reviewing current and emerging technologies and technical developments for incorporation into the game engine.
Qualifications:
• At least 3+ years in computer generated art, preferably in game development.
• Excellent knowledge of Maya, 3ds Max, MotionBuilder with solid Mel scripting skills.
• Knowledge of modeling, lighting, texturing/shading, rendering, rigging, skinning, and special effects.
• Experience with authoring tools such as Photoshop, ZBrush, Mudbox, Turtle, and Mental Ray.
• Programming experience considered a bonus (Cg/HLSL shaders, C/C++, Perl, etc) as are traditional drawing, painting, or sculpting skills.

He said government would never recognize UEC in whatever reason because it is not conformed with our national education system.

You open the newspapers and an advertisement featuring the logo of a prominent public university jumps out at you. The ad offers an executive diploma programme at affordable rates and, to sweeten the deal, it can be done part-time. But these qualifications may not be recognised by the Public Service Department or the Malaysian Qualifications Agency. SONIA RAMACHANDRAN finds out what such qualifications mean. MAY (not her real name) wanted to know more about human resources.
An advertisement in the newspaper with a Universiti Malaya (UM) logo caught her eye.
It was offering an executive diploma in human resource management.
"I thought 'Wow! It's UM and it is not easy to get in there' so I joined and paid the deposit," she said.
"I thought it was an accredited and recognised degree as it was from UM. Classes were also held in the UM campus and that added to the impression the qualifications were UM qualifications."
Only after paying more than RM7,000 and joining the course did May realise that she had joined the University of Malaya Centre for Continuing Education (UMCCed) and not UM.
"I still thought it was all right as it carried the UM name."
On the first day of class, May said they were told their diploma was recognised by Open University Malaysia.
Their diploma was not recognised by other public universities or the Public Service Department.
"This centre emphasises life-long learning, but how is this life-long learning when there is no avenue to do so as the diploma is not recognised by any accreditation body?
"If they cannot carry out the mission statement, it is an embarrassment to say this is a centre for continuous education. It is an insult to our intelligence."
Then they found out that their executive diploma in human resource management was not even recognised by UMCCed.
"After finding out that our qualifications were not recognised by Open University Malaysia, I had no choice but to continue with my degree in UMCCed.
"That was when I was told that I could not do so as my diploma in HR management was not approved by the UM Senate," said a student who wanted to be identified only as Sarip.
A Higher Education Department officer said UMCCed was a subsidiary owned by UM and established under the Companies Act.
The qualifications awarded by UMCCed, said the officer, should be treated the same as any qualification offered by a private higher educational institution.
The National Consumer Complaints Centre (NCCC) received 450 complaints in 2007 on misleading advertisements by higher education institutions.
Last year, there were 350 complaints.
Among these complaints were those regarding courses offered by "subsidiaries" of public universities offering "executive" courses.
NCCC chief executive officer Muhammad Sha'ani Abdullah said they received complaints that the students of subsidiaries of public universities received briefings in the public university itself.
"Some of these 'subsidiaries' have a campus outside the public university but when they recruit and give briefings, they do it on the public university's premises.
"The location provides the student with the impression that the course is affiliated with the university."
Sha'ani said the Higher Education Ministry should impose some regulations on these subsidiaries.
Malaysian Qualifications Agency chief executive officer Datuk Dr Syed Ahmad Hussein said most of the courses offered by the commercial arms of public universities, particularly the executive diplomas, did not fall within the Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF).
"The commercial arms are subsidiaries of the universities and are subject to their rules and regulations.
"Executive diplomas and other qualifications with the word 'executive' do not fall under us.
"But we have formed a technical committee last month, made up of top scholars, to advise MQA on some qualifications like associate degrees, executive diplomas and executive bachelor degrees that are offered around the world that have not been fitted into our framework."
Syed Ahmad said while seeking accreditation was not compulsory under the MQA Act, other related higher education acts, as well as the provisions made by funding agencies and foreign governments made accreditation of courses mandatory.
The Ministry of Higher Education also makes it compulsory for programmes in all institutions of higher learning to be in compliance with the MQF by 2011.
One proof of this compliance is accreditation.
"We are aware of courses by these commercial arms and are talking to the Higher Education Ministry and the public universities to see how these courses can be brought in line with the spirit and letter of the framework."
He advised students to always check the status of their courses when they were in doubt.

The National Consumer Complaints Centre (NCCC) received 450 complaints in 2007 on misleading advertisements by higher education institutions.
Last year, there were 350 complaints.
Among these complaints were those regarding courses offered by "subsidiaries" of public universities offering "executive" courses.
NCCC chief executive officer Muhammad Sha'ani Abdullah said they received complaints that the students of subsidiaries of public universities received briefings in the public university itself.
"Some of these 'subsidiaries' have a campus outside the public university but when they recruit and give briefings, they do it on the public university's premises.
"The location provides the student with the impression that the course is affiliated with the university."
Sha'ani said the Higher Education Ministry should impose some regulations on these subsidiaries.
Malaysian Qualifications Agency chief executive officer Datuk Dr Syed Ahmad Hussein said most of the courses offered by the commercial arms of public universities, particularly the executive diplomas, did not fall within the Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF).
"The commercial arms are subsidiaries of the universities and are subject to their rules and regulations.
"Executive diplomas and other qualifications with the word 'executive' do not fall under us.
"But we have formed a technical committee last month, made up of top scholars, to advise MQA on some qualifications like associate degrees, executive diplomas and executive bachelor degrees that are offered around the world that have not been fitted into our framework."
Syed Ahmad said while seeking accreditation was not compulsory under the MQA Act, other related higher education acts, as well as the provisions made by funding agencies and foreign governments made accreditation of courses mandatory.
The Ministry of Higher Education also makes it compulsory for programmes in all institutions of higher learning to be in compliance with the MQF by 2011.
One proof of this compliance is accreditation.
"We are aware of courses by these commercial arms and are talking to the Higher Education Ministry and the public universities to see how these courses can be brought in line with the spirit and letter of the framework."
He advised students to always check the status of their courses when they were in doubt.
TARC cheated cert student

Yesterday our college came out a memo for our certificate student that have to take JULY PAPER and only we can graduate. TARC have wasted our certificate level 3 and 4 student time. For student study level 3 certificate and wanna go for diploma we have to study for 2years certificate only we can go for diploma but now college is tell us that goverment have change rules and they just follow then why college still want go for IPTA. Increase our exam marks already stress us alot n cause us alot TARC student failed alot subject and now they want us certificate student to retake SPM bahasa melayu for credit only we can go for diploma and our certificate is being confirm by TARC and goverment and is not fair for TARC student . We not come from rich family and study other college is exepensive and not all family can afford.. I have study at tarc for 2years just for want go to diploma and now goverment and TARC college come out with this rules that need us to retake SPM for bahasa melayu. MCA is lier.. TAR College Diploma Not Recognised by JPA

A few weeks ago, both Kian Ming and I wrote on the issue that the Malaysian government does not recognise degrees granted by the top universities in China - Peking and Tsinghua University. Currently, they don't even recognised these universities' degrees in Chinese studies. This is despite the fact that our Malaysian government recognises medical degrees from Uganda, Burma, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Iraq.
However, I just found out late last week, that even diplomas and degrees from our very own local Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TARC) which has been established for many years, is not recognised by Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awan (JPA). Hence any TARC graduate seeking employment with the civil service will be rejected outright.
Network Engineer, Soo Pak Leong who graduated from TARC in 2003 has been applying to join the Royal Malaysian Police Force (PDRM) for the past 3 consecutive years, but has failed to be even shortlisted for an interview. Soo is now past the 25 year old limit for new PDRM recruits, and his dreams to be a police officer has effectively ended.
To fulfil his dreams of joining the force, Soo even downgraded his entry level to that of an Inspector, instead of a Cadet Assistant Superintendent (ASP) in his final application in the hope of achieving his ambitions.
Subsequently, he only found out from unofficial sources within the police force, much to his horror, that applications from TARC graduates are not accepted by the Government service.
Clarifications from the JPA (as above) confirmed that his academic qualification is "yet" to be recognised by the Government. Over the past seven months, Soo has written to all the MCA leaders and parliamentarians, the Education Ministries as well as the Prime Minister himself. He received no answers as to why his qualification cannot be recognised. YB Wee Ka Siong, MCA Youth Education bureau chief could only reply that this wasn't the first instance, and they will "pursue the issue further".
Hence this matter raises a few serious questions:
Firstly and obviously, what are the reasons that the Government, after so many years, is still adamant in not granting recognition of diplomas conferred by TARC, especially since TARC was set up by Barisan Nasional's very own key coalition partner, MCA. Given that many other local institutions of more dubious standing has been granted recognition, there's absolutely no reason why TARC should not be granted immediate recognition for Government employment.
Secondly, it raises the question as to whether the Government is indeed serious about its talk to raise the number of non-Malays in the Malaysian civil service, given that a large proportion of its students are of non-Malay origins. In fact, only last week, the leaders of PDRM have openly called for more non-Malays to join the force.
Thirdly, if indeed the Government has no intention of granting recognition to TARC, then it is critical for TARC administrators to make this information known to all potential students, so as to not mislead them in their future careers. While the private sector is happy to accept many of its graduates, those keen on the civil service should instead apply to other recognised colleges.
It pains me to say this, but the whole episode of the Government not granting recognition to degrees from Chinese top universities, and certificates conferred by TARC which was set up by the MCA, with the government's blessings, hints strongly at systematic disrimination by the civil service, and by implication, our top government leaders to marginalise the Chinese education community.
I hope that the Government will take immediate actions to rectify the above wrongs and demonstrate that the above is all but an exception to the rule that the Government has no intent on marginalising Malaysians of non-Malay descent.
